Residents of Houston, Galveston and Corpus Christi (and other coastal towns in Texas
) were ordered by their respective Mayors to evacuate before Harvey became a menace to their safety and well-being.
Folk who refused to leave were told to write their name and social security number on their fore arm, in case their situation turned into a recovery status for first responders.
Texan Governor Greg Abbot deployed more than a thousand National guards and asked President Trump to declare a state of emergency for the state. The President who plans to visit Texas next week said he would take the request under consideration.
The last category four storm to hit Texas was Carla in 1961.
Hurricane experts are predicting that rainfall from Harvey could reach 40 inches in some areas, because of the lingering effects of the storm.
