His Excuse For Murdering Eight People?
An argument with his estranged wife over custody of their three children drove a two-legged animal to kill eight people in Mississippi last Saturday night.
Mississippi Clarion-Ledger identified the suspect as 35-year-old Cory Godbolt.
Godbolt says “I was having a conversation with her step daddy and her mama, and her, my wife, about me taking my children home and somebody called the officers, people that didn’t even live at the house. But that’s what people do. They intervene,” he said before saying he was “sorry.”
Godbolt says the Sheriff Deputy was just in the way of him carrying out his heinous deeds, so he killed him.
The slain deputy has been identified as 36-year-old William Durr, a 2-year veteran of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Durr, who had been in law enforcement for a total of six years was dispatched to a domestic disturbance — at a house in Bogue Chitto, about 69 miles south of Jackson — involving the suspect when he was fatally shot, according to information given Reuters by Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Spokesman Warren Strain.
Cory’s killing spree started with the murder of Dep. Durr and three women at location one (1), he then traveled to a nearby neighborhood of Brookhaven where he shot and killed two boys, then went to location three where he killed a woman and a man.
The cowardly Godbolt who states that he wanted to commit “suicide by cop,” clung to a 16-year-old boy as a hostage when confronted by police.
He was treated for a single gunshot wound to his right arm at a nearby hospital and released to police custody.
