Does Black Lives Matter? This is America.
Movie producer Spike Lee aptly nicknamed the city of death (for many young black men), Chiraq.
The term Chiraq is a hybrid of Chicago and Iraq.
But not even in war-torn Iraq during the height of the war were forty-four American soldiers shot within a fourteen hour period.
If such a horrendous act occurred, the President of the United States and the American generals would roll out MOAB, the mother of all bombs and level the villages of the enemy combatants.
But this is America, where Black Lives are expendable and do not matter.
The crux of the Spike Lee movie Chiraq summarised up below:
The girlfriend (Teyonah Parris) of a Chicago gang leader (Nick Cannon) persuades other frustrated women to abstain from sex until their men agree to end the senseless cycle of violence.
Of course, that scenario will never come to fruition.
First of all, the group for the most part, of boys/men who are responsible for the violence committed against other black people — their appetite for sex is not dependent on who or where they get sex.
Because from their pre-teen years and early teenage years, the criminalized justice system has been incarcerating them en mass, and during incarceration, they (the jailed black males) have been introduced to having sex with each other.
Therefore, sometimes going to prison becomes a way for them to have sex with other men, away from the harsh criticism of some of their holier-than-thou family members.
Most criminal thugs have been trained by the “justice” system to have sex with whoever is available.
So women withholding sex from men in the hood is not necessarily the answer.
Do Black Live Matter?
What if a group of white police officers had shot 44 African-Americans in less than a 24-hour period?
What if a white police officer had shot and killed five African-Americans in one day — ranging in age from 11 to 62?
What if police officers had shot and killed eleven and wounded another 56 African-Americans in less than 48 hours, which is Chicago’s last victim headcount from Saturday night into Monday morning?
What would be the outcry from black communities and liberal white folk?
The world knows what the outcry is when white kids are murdered en-masse by gun violence.
Since the school shooting incident less than a year ago, at Majorie Stoneman Douglas High School (MSDHS) in Broward County where seventeen children and adults lost their lives: the President and his aides have addressed it.
The bigwigs from the National Rifle Association met with survivors of the shooting to console and seek solutions — and rightfully so.
The Broward school system has invested millions of dollars to secure the school, based on a one-time horrendous incident.
Since the shootings MSDHS, several police officers have been stationed at the school to protect the students.
The government has set aside millions of dollars to hire and train ex-police officers and ex-military personnel as guards for the school and its students.
Broward School Board commissioners hired an extra set of mental health professionals to counsel the staff and student body of MSDHS.
Several Florida gubernatorial and school board candidates are running on a platform to protect white school children from gun violence.
A declaration of martial law might not necessarily be the answer, but an increased community police presence and a 360-day temporary curfew could be a start in the right direction to addressing the problem.
Extracurricular activity and safe zones for youngsters to gather would be a start.
Sending in mental health professionals to counsel these kids who are suffering from PTSD, in America’s war-torn ghettos would help.
If the behavior is left unchecked and un-addressed sooner rather than later, it will spill over into lily white neighborhoods.
If or when this happens, then America will be singing a different tune.
