Making an honest living is now dishonorable?
It is a well-known fact that most Hollywood “stars” come from humble beginnings. Before they appeared on the silver screen or boob tube in our living rooms and into our psyche, they were either washing cars or dishes to make ends meet.
And even after getting a few mentionable roles, sometimes the sparseness of gigs, in-between, for some cause them to return to doing regular jobs to pay the bills.
It beats stealing, selling drugs or just sitting at home eating bonbons.
In her song, “Do You Know The Way To San Jose,” Dione Warrick sums up the Hollywood experience for many stars or those seeking stardom in Tinsel Town.
L.A. is a great big freeway
Put a hundred down and buy a car
In a week, maybe two, they’ll make you a star
Weeks turn into years. How quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parking cars and pumping gas
The above song or scene became a reality for former Cosby Show co-star Jeffery Owens.
The 57-year-old actor, who played Elvin Tibideaux for five seasons of The Cosby Show never thought it a crime to work an honest job.
Jeff knows that in between jobs, the bill collectors never stop working and so to satisfy his debtors he went to work for chain store supermarket Trader Joe’s.
Owens says while working there some shoppers recognize him and some will stop their shopping to have small conversations.
Well, recently a woman shopper saw him working at Trader Joe’s and decided to monkey up his honest way of making a living.
The woman (Karma Lawrence) snapped pictures of Owens and sold the pics for a reportedly $200 to British Tabloid newspaper, The Daily Mail.
The pics went viral on social media, and the haters pounced on Owens.
But a slew of his fans and other stars who had worked regular jobs in between gigs and some before they made it big came his rescue with their own story of struggling.
Since then, the wannabe paparazza, Karma Lawrence had apologized and said she meant no ill-will when she took his pictures and posted them.
After the hit job, Owens has been doing the rounds on several television shows.
Just to echo a few Bloggers: Karma is a BITCH.
Tyler Perry has since offered Owens a job.
“#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shootings OWN number one drama next week! Come to join us!!!” Perry tweeted Tuesday. “I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.”
