Socialist poised to Win Big in November’s election.
Humble, sharp, focused and socially aware are the boxes that one would check to describe Alexander Ocasio-Cortez, a native New Yorker who will be the youngest female elected to serve in the U.S House of Representatives — come November.
Twenty years ago when Representative Joe Crowley entered Congress, Ocasio-Cortez was only 10-years-old.
Now the political neophyte had spanked Crowley — in the primaries — who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens like the toddler she was when he began his political aspirations.
Crowley was 4th in line to become speaker of the House on the Democratic side of the aisle.
Ocasio-Cortez born in New York to a Puerto Rican mother and American father ran her campaign on promises of freebies for everyone, including government jobs for everyone.
Ocasio-Cortez’ socialist platform of handouts to all hasn’t said how it would pay for the goodies from her Santa Clause chest.
Set aside the fantasies of gifts for votes, Ocasio-Cortez ran a streamlined 100% volunteered, and well thought out campaign — one that other Democrats could use to win upcoming elections; depends on what part of the country they’re running in.
She also campaigned on issues of racial and economic justice as well as the abolition of ICE (an arm of law enforcement) whose named acronym is exceptionally fitting when it comes to its mistreatment of illegal immigrants.
Cortez won the primaries with 57% (15,145) votes to Crowley’s 42% (11,200) votes.
Hillary Clinton won that district with about 80 percent of the votes during the 2016 presidential campaign. The region is about 25 percent white and the rest a mix of many other ethnic groups.
While Ocasio-Cortez lists herself as white, the political media labels her A Democratic Socialist woman of color.
Ocasio-Cortez is a highly intelligent woman who is big on ideas and dreams but has a long distance to run to catch up to the realities of Washington, and the power of old money in politics.
