Barack, Michelle, Malia and Sasha, Poise, Grace and, Intelligence: Truly A Flock Of Black Swans In The White House
After 232 years of white male rule, the United States of America had a Black Swan moment. The “moment” lasted for eight years.
During those eight years, what could have been, should have been a time of healing and reconciliation… turned out to be one of the most divisive time points in the history of the nation.
On January 20, 2009, a man (Barack Husain Obama) born in the 50th state, Hawaii, of the USA to a white woman from Wichita, Kansas and a black man from Kenya became the first African-American President of the United States.
Obama presidency was the realization of their hopes, dreams, and prayers manifesting itself in the personification of a man and his family — and by extension theirs.
America’s Black Swan President
For Black Americans whose blood fertilized the soil — of this nation — the very soil that produces our crops in abundance and makes this the land of plenty… after five hundred years of lashes, burnings, scalding, and lynchings — a sigh of relief was had. And many thought perhaps there was a smidgen of fair play hidden somewhere in the core of America.
For those who have faced banking redlining, jim crow, housing discrimination and have stood before a bigoted judge in a Court of Law… they weren’t surprised when right after President Obama had been sworn in — Senator Mitchell McConnell, made the announcement, on behalf of the Republican Party that his primary mission was to see to it that Obama failed.
That is the history and mindset of too many Black and White Americans in their dealings and relationship.
In the movie Men of Honor, starring Robert Dinero and Cuba Gooding, Jr… Gooding portrays (real life Master Chief Petty Officer Carl Brashear — the Navy’s first Black American master diver.
In the Men of Honor, all of the White divers plotted against Gooding to make sure that he failed at his job. A familiar workplace tale experienced by many.
in 2009, Obama inherited a shipload of economic troubles among other global issues. Yet today, at the end of his 8-year term presidency, unemployment is at 4.7%, down from a near 10% rate. The deficit he inherited was at 9.6%. It is now at 3.2 percent.
Homelessness for vets has been cut in half. Sixteen nations gave up their nuclear aspirations. And High School graduation is now up to 83.2%. And the United States opens an Embassy in Cuba — after more than a fifty year absent.
America could have had another Black swan moment with Hilary Clinton, after 240 years of male presidency/rule.
