In 1969 when we were blasting off HIGH into outer space, and the mantra of the Baby Boomers, at the time, was “Turn on, tune in, drop out,” a reference to drug use — only about 12 percent of Americans believed recreational marijuana use should be made legal.
A recent Gallop poll shows sixty percent of Americans favor the legalization of the weed. This is in line with what the United States Marijuana Party has been PUSHING for now for years.
Recreational marijuana use is now permitted in states such as: Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.
On November 8th, 2016 (election day) the residence of eight other states will decide if marijuana should be made legal, joining the twenty-eight other states that have some form of legal use for cannabis — medicinal and or recreational.
Soon Mary Jane — Funk Master Rick James’ special name for his favorite lady — will be allowed to spread her pleasures around and have her fun, without her lovers worrying about going to jail.
Although, the late great (“I’m) Rick James — bitch” sings of the paradise that Mary Jane takes him to… that is the “good” side effects of M.J… But Rapper Afro Man also chimed in on the other side effects of Mary Jane and comically warns of the lethargic spirit that she induces in most users.
Recording artists such as Cypress Hill, Buju Banton, Snoop Dogg and several others sing the glorious praise of ganja, there is one artist (Peter Tosh) whose lyrical content of his ganja song not only speak of the decriminalization of Marijuana, but, from a medicinal point of view, he also gives his reasons as to why herb should be made legal.
Tosh made clear that some of the people who are putting mostly young black youths in jail for its use are themselves users of the weed or have used it at some point when they were young and adventurous.
“Judges smoke it, lawyers smoke it, doctors smoke it, nurses smoke it — he maintains — it’s good for asthma and it’s good for the flu, he claims. Legalize it and I’m sure there won’t be a shortage of users who are able and willing to advertise it.
Some would argue that making Mary Jane one of the forbidden fruits in this garden of Eden only makes it more appealing to some.
