Some say disaster comes in threes.
Miami/ Hialeah, FL
From the Ghetto of Miami-Dade County to Broward County’s Up-Scale Neighborhood of Coral Springs, Police Was Forced to Kill Three Men This Afternoon.
A 31-year-old Metro Dade police officer, Manuel Gonzalez, working an off-duty detail at a Wal Mart Super Center was forced to kill a suspected shoplifter after the shoplifter opened fire on the officer — police say.
Officer Gonzalez was shot multiple times, at about 1:00 p.m., when he followed David Facen, 54, of Miami out of the Wal Mart store — for suspected shoplifting.
David Facen who’s served time in prison for battery on a law enforcement officer or firefighter, suddenly turned around to face Gonzalez and opened fire. A gun battle ensued, and Facen was shot dead.
State prison records described Facen as “a violent career criminal.”
Facen also served another lengthy prison term from 1993 to 2002 on drug and gun charges, the records said.
Facen’s son, Roscoe, said he wants more answers about the killing. Sun-Sentinel is reporting.
Although today’s police-involved shooting was justified, it is important to note that the Wal Mart chain is known for poor customer service, ripping off its employees and aggressive, unjustifiable police-sanctioned killings of African-Americans.
A call went out about 1300 hours for officer down, in need of assistance, at which time several Miami-Dade officers rushed to the scene in their patrol vehicles, picked up the wounded officer and transported him to the hospital in a show of Banana Republic mentality.
Broward County, Coral Springs, FL
While the shooting was taking place (at about 1:00 p.m.) in Miami this afternoon, seventy-one-year-old Robert Page of Coral Springs threatened suicide.
Coral Springs PD was dispatched to Page’s home, and a 90-minute standoff went into effective between Page and CSPD SWAT team.
At the close of the standoff, Page exited his residence with a shotgun, two officers fired their weapons and killed him said Keyla Concepcion, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which will handle the investigation.

Meanwhile, in another Broward County city, a BSO deputy was attacked by Jean Pedro Pierre while responding to a domestic disturbance call when upon his arrival he was savagely attacked by Jean Pedro Pierre.
Reportedly, Pierre had the deputy down on his back, a distressed call went out, and upon the arrival of other officers, they opened fire on Pierre to stop his attack on the deputy that was down on the ground.
The shooting happened around 5:00 p.m., in the 3600 block of Northwest 21st Street, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Pierre was arguing with a woman who called for help. Officers were sent to the same location last night to quell a disturbance. They left without taking anyone into custody.
Pierre’s family said he was an entrepreneur and that he ran for office in Haiti — in the past. They’re looking for answers.
